Talomo district is the most populated district in Davao City, Philippines, with a population of 444,835 in 2020. It's located in the city's 1st congressional district. And it has 14 barangays. Each barangay is made up of puroks, and some also have sitios. Bangkal is part of BRGY Talomo proper, Davao City. Barangay Talomo derived its name from the great Bagobo chieftain DATU “TAOMO, who was one of the most trusted generals and friends of Davao’s legendary hero Datu, Bago. Barangay Talomo proper has 83 puroks; one of these is Bangkal, the most prosperous place in Davao City.



 Mother Filomena Liring, a 70-year-old bona fide inhabitant of Bangkal, Davao City. State that the word Bangkal is derived from the leichhardt pine, or Bangkal tree (Nauclea orientalis). It was a part of the larger Talomo area, which was significant during World War II when Japanese settlers established settlements and businesses throughout Davao City, including Talomo. In addition the most significant  place in bangkal is Marko.


This Makro Davao is located at KM 7 McArthur Hwy, Bangkal, Davao City. In 2014 it's rebranded into SM Savemore Bangkal Branch where SM group took 100% to all Makro Stores and rebranded  into Hypermarket and Savemore. Until 2023 the Supermarket still operating for their one stop shop. That's offered a variety of  groceries and household items  to the local community.

The Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Bangkal Campus, established in June 2018, serves as the primary facility for its Senior High School (SHS) program. AdDU offers academic tracks in HUMSS, STEM, and ABM, all aligned with its college programs. Committed to excellence and magis, the university nurtures competence, commitment, compassion, and cultural sensitivity through Christ-centered education. SHS graduates are granted automatic admission to AdDU College.


Mabini National High School is located at Km. 6, Narra Street, Bangkal, Davao City. It is a public secondary school serving at least seven barangays. It was established in 1981 as an annex of Talomo National High School due to the increase in enrollment. In addition, Mabini National High School continues to serve the educational needs of its community, providing quality education and actively engaging the students in various programs and different activities that shape the future of its students. One of the most remarkable awards of Mabini National High School is being the first public school in Davao City to receive an award in the Pasidungog 2022: Garbo sa Davao under the Economic Development category.

Bangkal, a vibrant community in Davao City, is home to diverse indigenous groups, including the Iranun, Ata, Kagan, Bagobo Klata, Maguindanaon, and more. These tribes contribute to the area's rich cultural heritage through their traditions, languages, and customs.  In conclusion Bangkal, a vibrant community in Talomo District, Davao City, has a rich history and a strong sense of identity. Its name comes from the Bangkal tree (Nauclea orientalis), a nod to its deep roots in the past. Once part of a significant settlement during World War II, Bangkal has since grown into a bustling area with thriving businesses and schools.

The transformation of Makro Davao into SM Savemore reflects the area’s economic development, while institutions like Ateneo de Davao University’s Bangkal Campus and Mabini National High School provide quality education. Beyond commerce and academics, Bangkal is a cultural hub, home to indigenous groups such as the Iranun, Ata, Kagan, Bagobo Klata, and Maguindanaon. Their traditions, crafts, and festivals contribute to the area's diversity and inclusive spirit.
